At present, my country continues to introduce emission standards, levy VOC pollution fees and grant treatment subsidies. Some cities’ pollution fees are higher or close to the cost of pollutant treatment. In addition to VOC prevention and control countries, they also strongly support the development of aerospace, shipyards, high-end automobiles, and bridges. High-end special coatings urgently needed in steel structure, ocean, wind power generation and other industries, improve product quality and replace imports.     When a ship sails on the ocean, the contact part of the ship's body and seawater is not only subject to strong electrochemical corrosion of seawater, but also fouled by marine organisms. Seawater is a very strong corrosive medium for steel materials, especially in warm seas and spring and summer. These harmful organisms grow and multiply rapidly, causing serious pollution. The corrosion of seawater and microorganisms reduces the service life of ships, increases maintenance and repair costs, and more seriously, it threatens the safety of ships' navigation. At present, the most effective anti-corrosion and anti-fouling method is to protect the hull metal from corrosion through water-based paint.

    Most of the volatile organic compounds (VOC) produced by traditional solvent-based coatings are toxic substances. With the increasing awareness of environmental protection and labor protection in the entire society, countries around the world have successively formulated laws and regulations to limit VOC emissions. As environmental protection laws and regulations impose stricter limits on VOC emissions, marine coatings will inevitably shift to the direction of energy saving, low pollution and high performance. Take water-based acrylic paint as an example. It is prepared by combining water, additives and acrylic acid/methacrylic acid/butyl acrylate. The acrylic polymer is dispersed in water and a crosslinking agent. The crosslinking agent can interact with the acrylic polymer during curing. The cross-linking reaction takes place to form a polymer coating with a network structure, which in turn has the effect of preventing corrosion.

    At present, the research on the modification of acrylic resin has replaced the research on a single acrylic system. For example, the modification of acrylic resin with epoxy resin makes it have the advantages of both. This kind of coating has high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance and environmental protection. It has great advantages in terms of sex, and has been successfully applied to offshore platforms, containers, bridges, chemical plants and TV towers. In addition, monomers with different functions can also be used for copolymerization, and the anti-rust performance of the resulting coating will be improved and the cost will be reduced to a certain extent.     With the increasing pressure of emission reduction in the 13th Five-Year Plan, it is the fundamental way to achieve VOC emission reduction in the long run. With paint alone, the country consumes 15 million tons of paint each year, and VOC emissions exceed 6 million tons. Some provinces and cities have compulsorily promoted the use of environmentally friendly (water-based) coatings. For example, Shenzhen and Hebei prohibit the use of solvent-based coatings.
